What Is Ground Rent?

Ground rent is a small annual fee that a leaseholder must pay to the freeholder as a condition of their lease. It is normally no more than £200. Only if the ground rent is specified in the lease must it be paid. The landlord will not be able to recoup any ground rent from the leaseholder if it isn't.

What Happens If Ground Rent Isn't Collected?

If ground rent is not collected, the property owner may be held liable for property upkeep costs. This can include taxes, repairs, and other expenses. The property owner may also be liable for any legal fees associated with evicting tenants who have not paid their rent.

Landlords should consult with a solicitor to ensure they are in compliance with all applicable laws.
